My company are really hot on corporate training but I am surprised that they are still putting people on so many courses with this recession in full swing. It is a bit concerning really that they are spending so much money on courses when they should perhaps be thinking about saving money and making sure that the company can manage to cope in this situation. I suppose that a lot of the courses are virtual classroom training and this should help to keep the costs down but they seem to forget that keeping people away from their desks is still costing money. They also get distracted form work when they return from the course because they are thinking of the things that they have learned. I guess it is important to stay ahead f the game and compete to keep the business doing well but I am just not sure whether this is the right time to be doing this. I hope they know what they are doing because I know that if they were forced to lay people off, I would be likely to be the first person made redundant as I am doing a job with someone else and there isn’t generally enough work for two people (although there is normally more than one person could cope with). Cut backs would probably start with positions like ours.
